Garden Shine

Summer is still shining her light here and I am soaking it up and storing it! I'm juggling family days with studio days. Colour is every where and it is soaking into my soul. I love this time of year, the days feel full and nature is bountiful. We've started to crop our produce at the allotment and are enjoying courgettes, blackberries, plums and beans.

In the garden I see the sun in everything, the apples are swelling, the sunflowers reaching for the sky. This rudbeckia is my latest addition to the garden along with some dahlias that are going to sing their song as summer fades.

The sun is infusing my work too. It's life giving force has been a powerful symbol in art through all time. Ever since childhood I've enjoyed drawing that circle of radiating light. I'm going to use these images in the darker days of Autumn and Winter to remind myself of that warm energy. If you'd like to create a sun collage, an amulet of summer energy, why not join me for my creative collage workshop on Saturday October 10th in Long Eaton?

'Shine like the Sun' is available to book here. If you can't come to an in-person workshop you can find out more about my connection to nature and the seasons and how you can use them to develop your creativity by listening to my spoken word creative visualisation CD 'I am Nature'. Available in my online shop for £10.

Old and New I

It was Open Studios at Long Eaton Art Rooms at the weekend. We had lots of people through the door interested to see what the building had become and what facilities were available. We put the Art Room on the map!  Funds were raised towards the building work needed in the arts centre and there was a great feeling of community spirit and creative camaraderie, which made it very difficult to say goodbye to Studio 10.

And the work of the unforgettable David William Sampson and Mary Graham........

Studio Ten!

I've so enjoyed moving in to Studio Ten.  It's a very satisfying feeling to have evolved in to a fully functioning creative business!  I've found things I'd lost and had a good clear out and revelled in having space to store work and space to frame and create and be.  I'm feeling good about life.

Upcoming workshops

Back by popular demand!  This Autumn I'll be running another 'Recording Memories' workshop.  To see how the Spring workshop went, have a look here.  The one day workshop will be held at Long Eaton Art Room, near Nottingham on Saturday 8th October. The room is large and airy with plenty of parking and disabled access.  I'll be providing tea and coffee and cake made by my own fair hands!  All for £40, including materials. The day will run from 10-4.  Get in touch with me through the website if you'd like to book a place.

I'm also running a 'Creating for Ceramic Transfer' workshop at Beans Coffee Shop Gallery on Sunday 25th September 2011.  I've fallen in love with ceramic transfers!  It's a great way of translating your art into an embellishment for any ceramics or china.  I'll show you how it works and during the day you can create an original piece of art work using ink, collage and stitch which I will then have made into a transfer and fired onto a tile for you.  These make great presents!  The day runs from 10-4 and costs £40 including a lovely lunch and most materials.  There'll be an additional £5 charge for each tile you would like to have made.  If you'd like to book a place, please contact Karen at Beans Coffee Shop Gallery.

Both courses are suitable for beginners and will be an informal introduction to techniques and ideas.  I hope you can join me for what I hope will be a fun and inspiring day.

ps.  Whilst I'm telling you about my courses, I'll also tell you about David's Life Drawing courses.  These will run on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings from the start of September at Chilwell School and at St.Mary's Church Hall, Draycott.

Derbyshire Open Arts

Today was day two of Derbyshire Open Arts.  I'll be exhibiting at Long Eaton Art Room tomorrow too, please come if you can. It's been a slow weekend in terms of visitor numbers.  Those that have come have been good friends, and people I've met at other fairs that I have done, and friends I've made through facebook.  So it's been a good, sociable weekend!

Today I had to say goodbye to a piece that I had created for my solo exhibition at Ashbourne.  It's nice to know that it'll be living locally.  My ceramics have been selling well, with some special offers especially for  this weekend.

Today the lovely Mary Graham taught me to crochet and introduced me to Oxygen shoes so I end the day happy!
